George Benson is an American jazz fusion guitarist and singer born in Pittsburgh in 1943. He rose to prominence in the 1960s playing soul jazz with organist Jack McDuff, then launched a successful solo career blending jazz, pop, R&B, and scat singing. His 1976 album Breezin' became the first jazz record to achieve platinum sales and spawned hit singles like 'This Masquerade' and 'Give Me the Night,' making him a crossover superstar.
