Essiet Okon Essiet is a premier New York-based jazz bassist born in Omaha, Nebraska to Nigerian immigrant parents. He gained critical acclaim as a member of Bobby Watson's post-hard bop group Horizon and served as Art Blakey's last bassist with the Jazz Messengers. With extensive collaborations ranging from Abdullah Ibrahim to the Blue Note All-Stars, Essiet has established himself as one of jazz's most versatile and in-demand bassists, leading his own Nigerian jazz project IBO.
